Thumbnail Filmstrip of Penstemon grandiflorus - Beardtongue Images
One of the showiest of all Penstemons, Beardtongue produces large, pink to lavender, horizontally arranged, tubular flowers that are 2 inches long. Blooming in early summer, the striking blossoms attract bees, hummingbirds and birds but are ignored by deer. This low maintenance wildflower is particularly spectacular when grown in drifts, adding lovely vertical lines to the landscape. Best grown in full sun in dry to medium well-drained soils.
