Thumbnail Filmstrip of Ruellia humilis - Wild Petunia Images
The very rare Wild Petunia is naturally found growing in dry soils. Flowering in the hottest times of mid-summer it produces gorgeous violet coloured blossoms shaped like floral trumpets. Wild Petunia attracts a wide variety of pollinators, its blooms are especially attractive to long tongued bees and butterflies. It is also a host plant for the larvae of the Common Buckeye butterfly. A short plant, Ruellia humilis is particularly well-suited to rock gardens and combines very well with other short plants such as Purple Poppy Mallow and Junegrass in dry soil gardens.
