Thumbnail Filmstrip of Senna hebecarpa - Wild Senna Images
Wild Senna looks quite exotic as its large leaves give it a feathery appearance from a distance. Blooming with a profusion of bright, butter-yellow flowers in mid-summer, the golden tones of Senna hebecarpa are repeated in the fall as the foliage turns colour. Birds love this plant as it provides them shelter while the large chocolate coloured seeds offer up a nutritious meal in the fall. Fond of clay, it will thrive in medium to moist soils, and tolerates periodic flooding. Wild Senna is a larval host plant for the Cloudless Sulphur butterfly.
